Privacy Policy

Ballotics makes a free iOS app and this website that present U.S. political data — polling averages, electoral maps, campaign finance, election history, and congressional information. We built Ballotics to be useful without being invasive. This policy explains what we collect, what we don't, and why.

§ 01The short version

• No account is required to use Ballotics.
• We don't sell or rent your personal information.
• We don't run third-party ads, and we don't embed advertising or tracking SDKs.
• Ballotics is built around public data from established third parties.
• We collect as little as possible.

§ 02Information you provide

Ballotics has no sign-up and no user profiles. If you use features that look up your elected officials, you may provide your state, district, or address. That information is used only to identify your representatives and the maps relevant to you — never to build an advertising profile, and never sold to anyone.

§ 03Information collected automatically

Website. This site (ballotics.com) is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like most web hosts, GitHub may log technical information such as your IP address and browser type to operate and secure the service; see the GitHub Privacy Statement. We do not set advertising cookies or run third-party analytics on this site.

App. We do not embed third-party advertising or tracking SDKs in the app. If you download Ballotics from the App Store, Apple may provide us with aggregate, anonymized statistics (such as download counts and crash reports) through App Store Connect. Apple's handling of that data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

§ 04How data reaches Ballotics

To show current information, Ballotics requests public data from third-party sources, including The New York Times (polling, under CC BY 4.0), the Federal Election Commission, the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Congress (Congress.gov), the MIT Election Data & Science Lab, and Harvard Dataverse. When your device requests data from these sources, your IP address is necessarily visible to them, as with any internet request. Their use of that information is governed by their own privacy policies.

§ 05What we don't do

• We don't sell or rent personal information.
• We don't show third-party ads.
• We don't require you to create an account.
• We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

§ 06Data retention & security

Because we don't operate user accounts, we don't maintain a database of personal user information. Any state, district, or address you enter is used to fulfill your request for representative and map information and is not used to identify you personally.

§ 07Your choices

You can use most of Ballotics without providing any personal information. You can decline location or address features and still browse polling, maps, finance, and history.

§ 08Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll revise the "Effective" date above and, for material changes, note them in the app or on this page.
